I love it when I stumble upon an answer to a question that I have been pondering. What do other folks do with paper holiday cards they get? A blog that is fast becoming a must read for me just gave me her answer, and I find it really sweet and touching that she saves hers so lovingly.
Ah, Etsy. I love you, and yet I rarely utilize you! But – I vowed to find something among your lovely wares to gift a friend of mine for Christmas. To pretty not to share. Enjoy!
The last few years, due to my need to fill a creative void, be environmentally sound, and be (let’s face it) sort of spend thrifty, I have been making the majority of my Christmas gifts. I was really excited to stumble onto this recently:
So – here I go, my pledge I will TRY to go by for 2009:
Now that’s done, what to make??? Here are some ideas:
- An old high school buddy of mine that the internets has reconnected me with not too long ago, has a funny little blog here, where she recently posted some funny and unique holiday gifts to give this season. I REALLY love this idea: Reclaimed T-Shirt Scarfs, but I made soft cotton t-shirt fabric scarfs last year, so this is probably not the answer. Note to self to bookmark this idea for myself for later :).
- Cookies! I am totally going to make these this year: Sugar Cookies with Lime Essence. These are some of the best cookies I have ever eaten, and totally worth the subscription to Cook’s Illustrated if you want to make them! I am thinking of putting them in white tins, and then topping with a bow from this idea.
- CALENDARS! My Bio Mother-In-Law always gives thoughtful calendars to all of her family for Christmas. She lovingly writes everyone’s birthdays, anniversaries, etc. into each one. It must take her weeks. I am a big cheater, and am ordering these through iPhoto this year. I would tell you more, but some of you who are reading this wouldn’t get to be surprised. This counts as handmade, right???
- Etsy, Etsy, Etsy. So many amazing things, so much talent. I hope to find some perfect things on Etsy this year.
I encourage you to make the same pledge! It’s fun, it’s personal, and it’s really special.
My husband just turned me onto this illustrator, Olly Moss, and I am crazy about some of his super graphic images. I hope to buy at least one for a Christmas present for my brother and his wife. I want the G scissors really badly.

When an amazing, and stylish friend buys a house – it’s imperative that you buy said friend the perfect housewarming gift, right? I have just such a problem, and enlisted the help of another super stylish friend in picking out the perfect thing.
First, I sent her the table and chairs that are in my friend’s new dining room: Super eclectic and lovely, right? I thought maybe Z Gallerie might be a good place to start? Here’s what my friend (who makes a living out of picking decorative stuff for particular tastes) had to say:
“He has a French Country (sorta) thing going on – most of the stuff on Z Gallerie was too blingy. Thought Ballard Designs and Pottery Barn were better matches for his taste. So I searched.”
What do you think? Amazing, right??? I want her to have a blog SO badly so that I may link to it RIGHT NOW! She rocks! That’s above and beyond the call, right? Now – what to choose?
